This
is a family favorite recipe, updated with lavender buds - it is
truly magnificent! Our grandmother, Lucy Mary Whitworth Stewart,
was born in 1904 in Morris, Manitoba. Her family came to British
Columbia when she was a toddler and she spent her early years growing
up on the Whitworth Ranch in the Skagit Valley near Hope, B.C. right
on the Canada/U.S. border. Today the ranch is a provincial park
and one of the mountains is named Whitworth Peak after her father,
Henry Whitworth. Mary moved to Kelowna when she was 17 and soon
married Richard Stewart of Stewart Brother's Nursery. Our farm is
on one of the original pieces of nursery land now planted out to
1 acre of lavender and 6 acres of grapes.
