Skin Care Confusion

With so many skin care buzz words on the market, it can be hard to know which moisturizer to use and when. There are creams and lotions, serums and salves, butters and balms. It's no wonder many people feel a wave of confusion wash over them when choosing products for their daily skin care regime.

The cosmetic industry has long been sneaking undesirable chemicals and fragrances into skin care products to make them less expensive, compromising their quality for quantity. Even products that are presented as "natural" might not be what they seem. In general, a moisturizer contains essential oils diluted in carrier oils, however in an effort to keep costs down, companies may use mineral oils, petroleum or paraffin wax as carriers - ingredients which do not allow the skin to breathe.

At our farm, we make four different moisturizers, each with a base of vegetal carrier oils. These are oils derived from nuts and seeds which are very beneficial for the skin as they contain organic compounds such as essential fatty acids and vitamins.

Face Serum

Our lightest and most gentle moisturizer is our serum, intended for application on the face directly after cleansing. Only a few drops are needed in your daily skin care routine.

A serum contains a high concentration of active ingredients (antioxidants, vitamins and moisturizing agents). It is absorbed quickly and penetrates deeply, delivering the active ingredients’ beneficial goodness directly into the skin.

The oil bases of our serums work together to soothe, soften and recondition the skin, restoring its natural moisture balance. The blends of essential oils in each serum differ depending on skin type.

Bath & Body Oil

One step up from our serum is our Bath & Body Oil. While originally created to be used directly in the bath, this oil is an exceptional all around moisturizer and makes a great choice for a massage oil. The base of organic sunflower oil makes it light and easily absorbed, though the delicate skin of the face should be avoided due to the strong concentration of essential oil.

Body Butter

Our Body Butter is one of our favourites - an incredibly restorative and healing cream that truly harnesses the power of plants and works wonders on chapped and broken skin.

Heavier than the serums and Bath & Body Oil, our Body Butter can be used all over the body from the neck down to provide intensive moisturizing. Creamy and luxurious, it glides gently over the skin and releases a delicate aroma of the rose hips, grape blossoms, calendula, chamomile and viola infused within. Local beeswax and shea nut butter slow down its absorption, allowing a protective barrier on the skin to be created and reduce water loss.

Hand & Body Salve

Our heaviest, most hard-working and down-to-business moisturizer is our Hand & Body Salve. Undiluted by lighter oils, its only carrier is shea nut butter. An excellent choice to heal and protect the skin, it is perfect for spot treatment of cracked cuticles, broken skin and chapped heels. A little goes a long way and while slow to absorb into the skin, it soothes and restores through intensive moisturizing.

While each person and skin type has a preference for which moisturizer to use and when, it's always a good idea to read the ingredients so you know what is being absorbed into your body.

Skip the additives, fillers and nasty chemicals - your skin (and your health) will thank you!
