Winter Glow ~ Capturing a Little Apricity

There is an old English word - apricity - meaning the warmth of the sun on a winter’s day.

It is a beautiful word describing a simple pleasure: that unexpected moment when the winter sun reaches your face and, just for a little while, the season feels warmer.

That feeling became the inspiration for Winter Glow.

It begins in the garden

One of the plants at the heart of Winter Glow is Lemon Verbena (Aloysia citrodora).

Living in the Okanagan, citrus trees are not part of our landscape. Yet brush your hand against the leaves of Lemon Verbena and you are met with the most extraordinary aroma of lemons.

It is one of the reasons I have loved growing this plant for so many years.

Each summer, we gather our Lemon Verbena and bring it to the still to capture and collect its hydrosol and pure essential oil.

It's one of our smaller harvests, and it makes all of us glow in its wake. 

A botanical ingredient that highlights the best part of summer as the seasons change and shorten.

From the still to Winter Glow

When we formulated Winter Glow Room Mist, we wanted Lemon Verbena to shine.

Its bright citrus character is joined by Lemongrass, creating a fresh botanical opening before giving way to the warm, woody aromas of palo santo, frankincense and Red Cedar. Laurel leaf and cinnamon add a softly spicy and warming finishing touch.

The result is complex and layered: citrus, woods and spice woven together into an aroma intended for the shorter, quieter days of winter. Our attempt to bottle apricity.

Creating a winter ritual

Mist Winter Glow into a room when you want to change its atmosphere, or add a few sprays to a water-based diffuser and allow the layers of the blend to slowly unfold.

Put on some music. Make a cup of tea. Watch the winter light move across the room.
