DIY Natural Surface Cleaner

There is something wonderfully satisfying about cleaning your home with simple ingredients that come from nature.

Long before "natural cleaning" became fashionable, this was the surface cleaner we made and used every day here at the farm. It was a favourite with both our staff and our customers because it was remarkably simple, effective, and free from unnecessary chemicals.

Today, rather than offering it as a bottled product, we'd rather share the recipe so you can make it fresh at home using ingredients you may already have on hand.

Lavender hydrosol forms the heart of this recipe. Steam distilled from our farm-grown lavender, it brings a clean botanical aroma while pairing beautifully with lavender, tea tree and lemongrass essential oils for an uplifting everyday cleaner.

Perfect for:

  • Glass and mirrors
  • Stainless steel appliances
  • Kitchen and bathroom countertops
  • Door handles and light switches
  • Bathroom fixtures

Botanical Surface Cleaner

Ingredients

  • 100 mL Lavender Hydrosol
  • 75 mL Distilled Water
  • 25 mL White Vinegar
  • 10 drops Pure Lavender Essential Oil
  • 25 drops Pure Tea Tree Essential Oil
  • 5 drops Pure Lemongrass Essential Oil
(Sweet Orange Essential Oil also makes a lovely substitute.)

Pour all ingredients into a clean spray bottle and shake well before each use.

For stubborn grease

For greasy stovetops or kitchen surfaces, place a small amount of dish soap directly onto the surface first, then spray with the botanical cleaner and wipe clean.

A simple companion

We often pair this cleaner with a sprinkle of baking soda when cleaning sinks, stovetops and other stubborn surfaces. Used together, they make a wonderfully simple, low-waste alternative to many conventional household cleaners.

Small Batch Refill

Many of our customers like to reuse the aluminum spray bottles from our room mists and botanical sprays. If you have one of our 80 mL bottles, simply scale the recipe below.
