Starter Guide to Roll-On Essential Oil Blends

Simple, botanical blends you can make at home

There’s something deeply satisfying about creating your own botanical remedies—blending pure essential oils with nourishing carrier oils to craft something personal and purposeful.

Whether tucked into a pocket, purse, or bedside table, a roll-on blend offers a simple way to bring plant-based care into your everyday rituals.

A Gentle Place to Begin

When blending for the skin, remember that less is more. We recommend a simple, safe ratio:

~3 drops of essential oil per 10 mL of carrier oil

This creates a gentle, balanced blend suitable for everyday use. We prefer organic carrier oils that are neutral in aroma and nourishing for your skin - try sunflower, sweet almond or jojoba oils.

How to Blend

Gently remove the roller insert using clean fingers or a small tool - a butter knife is ideal.
Add essential oils first, then fill with your chosen carrier oil.
Press the insert firmly back into place and secure the cap.
Roll gently between your hands to combine.

A Few Thoughtful Notes

  • Always dilute essential oils before applying to skin
  • Perform a patch test when trying a new blend
  • Some citrus oils (like bergamot) may increase sun sensitivity—avoid direct sun exposure after application
  • Store your blends in a cool, dark place to preserve freshness
  • A good rule of thumb is to use your blends within 12 months.

Create Your Own

Once you become familiar with a few oils, blending becomes intuitive—guided as much by scent as by purpose.
